Seminar: Collaborating with Men

Message from Department of Comparative Literature Event Poster [Seminar] Collaborating with Men Speaker: Dame Barbara Stocking, President of Murray Edwards College Date: 8 March 2017 (Wednesday) Time: 4-5:30pm Venue: Rm 4.36, Run Run Shaw Tower, Centennial Campus, HKU For registration: https://goo.gl/forms/7UvapOEGz7gOghRo2 Abstract: Dame Barbara Stocking DBE will discuss ground-breaking research, conducted by Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge, into the behaviours and perceptions of men regarding women’s workplace experiences. Up until now, most research on workplace experiences has talked to women. Collaborating with Men is ground-breaking research conducted by Murray Edwards College with men to establish how men and women can work together to transform workplace culture barriers to women’s progress into leadership positions. Much research shows how women’s careers are ill-affected by assumptions and behaviour in the workplace that arise from the dominance of masculine culture. Yet very little research has sought the point of view of men. The research asks men who support gender equality: Do they see the problems women report? What they can personally do to help change the workplace? What support do they need from leaders? For more information on the research and to view the full report, please see: https://www.murrayedwards.cam.ac.uk/news/collaborating-with-men-report-talks-about-changing-workplace-culture Biography: Dame Barbara Stocking became the fifth President of Murray Edwards College in July 2013. In March 2015, she was appointed Chair of the Independent Panel of Experts to assess WHO’s response in the Ebola outbreak. The report was published in July 2015. From May 2001 to February 2013 Barbara was Chief Executive of Oxfam GB and before that, a member of the top management team of the NHS, as regional director for the South East of England, and then as the founding Director of the NHS Modernisation Agency.
